Horse Knowledge & Care

The subjects covered:
-
Horse Psychology, Anatomy and Physiology
Knowing your horse inside out is the best way to become a better rider. The Foundation programme will build on the basic knowledge of horse psychology you came across either on the Start Programme or during other riding experiences. More in depth understanding of horse behaviour will make your time in the saddle safer and more enjoyable. The better you know the horse you are on, the more harmonious the communication in between you and the more satisfying and rewarding the training. We are often worried the most about the things we don't know. Familiarising yourself with the nature of the animal you are riding changes your attitude and approach from tentative to positive.
If you have your own horse, he/ she can benefit from Equine Body Work (Equine Sports Massage) by Susanna Malkakorpi who will introduce you to the world of muscular tension and variety of strains in a riding horse.
You are also welcome to spend time observing the Academy's instructors when they ride their horses and/or work with them on the ground. Often we have less than straightforward horses to back, school or exercise for owners so there is always something new to learn. It will cost you nothing but might be the sort of priceless experience that can fast forward your learning more than many lessons.

Daily Care and Saddlery:
You will learn to prepare the horse to be ridden for different types of training and care after the sessions, and develop an understanding of the varieties of tack used for different lessons and the rules of looking after the horse after more strenuous exercise.
