Ridden Training

Emily Estcourt and Wondering Star

At this level the training is split in between you and your horse in a 50:50 ratio most of the time. You will find the focus changes while you are still refining you core riding skills and improving your horse training skills but there will also be significantly more emphasis on event-specific riding skills. The Academy's ultimate goal at this level is to maintain your focus on the process of training vs. results of training. The reason being, competition training is demanding and time consuming. There are no short cuts to success and just thinking about selection for Home Internationals or the Grassroots Eventing Championships at Badminton in two years time might not be enough to make you go out for that dark winter evening practice for your next local Prelim test / Clear Round jumping in the freezing cold, covered in mud.

We endeavour to provide you with an exciting mixture of coaching experiences so your your efforts in the training adventure are as worthy as the Big Dream / Goal itself. 'If you enjoy your training, the results will take care of themselves.'

The ridden training part of the Training Plan is tailor-made for you upon completing your Assessment Day (please see Case Studies for videos of Assessment Days). Once your short-term and long-term goals are set the training can begin. It will address the technical, physical and mental skills relevant to your aims and help you to train your horse towards those aims.

Lessons normally last an hour but all Academy instructors will make sure both you and your horse finish on a good note regardless of the time constraints.
